Cue card - useful tool you made - solar cooker

{jcomments on}Talk about a hand-made useful tool that you created. Please say

- What was it?
- How did you do it?
- Why it is useful in everyday life?

  • I am very fond of making things from paper such as greeting cards and origami boxes
  • But here I would like to talk about a very useful tool that I made with hand.
  • It is a solar cooker which works and is proving very useful especially in the hot summer months of May and June.
  • I took two cardboard boxes, one smaller than the other.
  • I then fitted the small box inside the bigger box and filled the space between them with crumpled newspaper.
  • I lined the bottom with black paper to absorb heat and the sides with aluminium foil.
  • Then I took four pieces of cardboard and lined them with aluminium foil to make them act like reflectors.
  • Then I stapled these cardboards to the larger box and angled them at 45 degree.
  • My mother has some heat–resistant glass utensils with tops.
  • Whatever has to be cooked she places it in these boxes and covers with the glass lid and keeps them in the prepared box.
  • We just have to take care that the reflectors face the sun.
  • Ever since my mother has started using this solar cooker, our LPG gas cylinder has started lasting longer.
  • Earlier it used to finish in about a month but now it lasts almost one and a half month.
  • The solar cookers available in the market are definitely better but this one also works.
  • It is a big saving
  • As it is nowadays we all need to think about the environment.
  • More and more needs to be done about saving the conventional resources and using the non-renewable ones.
