11th January IELTS GT Task 1, India

Last month you had a trip to another city where your friend is living. You planned to meet him, but unfortunately it could not be possible. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter

  • Apologize for not being able to meet
  • Explain the reasons why you could not meet him
  • Also ask him about a possible plan of further meeting

Dear Simran,

Hope this letter finds you in radiant health and the best of spirits. I know you must be very angry with me for not meeting you as planned during my visit to Chandigarh last month. I am writing this letter to apologise for not being able to see you that day and also to tell you why I couldn’t do so.

As you know, I came to Chandigarh for a business meeting and my boss and two colleagues were also with me for the meeting. The meeting was to start at sharp 9 am and finish at 5pm.  Unfortunately, the key speaker’s flight got delayed and so the meeting started two hours late and concluded at around 7 pm. We had to rush to the airport immediately after the meeting, as my return flight was at 9 pm. I had intended to spend those two hours with you and then take my return flight, but it could not happen.

I was very excited at the prospect of meeting you and reviving some nostalgic memories of college time. I will be visiting Chandigarh again next month and I would soon share my itinerary with you, so that you can also plan your schedule accordingly. Hope we will get time to hang out with each other then.

Looking forward to meeting you soon.

Yours lovingly,

Anudeep

You can use contraction, but that does not mean you have to.
IELTS is very simple, don’t think of it as so complicated- there are no such rules.

  2. Nicely framed, but just a food for thought.
Business meeting may be a business conference as it is better connected to Key Speaker or speaker can give way to client for meeting sake.
I was just curious to know if you have your operations in Karnal, Haryana or just how to you work online, reading material or personal classes.
Do let me know if you find this useful.
