IELTS Academic Essay 24th DEC 2022 India 1 PM

Some people think that it is good for a country’s culture to show imported foreign films and TV programs. Others think that it is better to produce these locally. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Some people believe that broadcasting foreign TV programs and movies is better for a country’s culture, whereas others believe that it is beneficial to make movies and TV shows locally. In this essay I will discuss both perspectives, but I agree with the latter side.

On the one hand, the main reason why some people think that foreign movies and tv soaps help a county’s culture is that such media promotes awareness, curiosity, and interest in other cultures. People start respecting diversity and understand why people from different countries do some things that they themselves don’t value. Furthermore, people can learn a lot from other cultures and try to adopt the good values of other cultures.

On the other hand, there are many reasons why some people believe that it is better to create films locally. Firstly, films and tv serials are the carriers of a country’s culture. The local film and TV industry enables a country to spread its culture and be recognized worldwide. Secondly, the film industry promotes economic growth by creating so many jobs for thousands of people like actors, directors, choreographers, editors, cinematographers, makeup artists, etc.

I also believe that a country benefits by keeping cinema production in-house. Revenue earned from local movies and TV series boosts a country’s economy. For example, Indian films like ‘RRR, ‘‘Bahubali,’ ‘Dabang,’ ‘Lagaan’ etc., have done business worth crores not only in India but abroad as well. Local movies can also highlight social issues and problems relevant to the country. Thus, they influence citizens to address these issues and improve their country.

To sum up, I would like to reiterate that creating tv programs and movies domestically is better for the cultural and economic growth of a country.
