The high incomes of celebs in the field of sports and entertainment have always been a matter of dispute. I believe that actors and sportsmen also contribute equally to our society, so I disagree that doctors, nurses and teachers should be paid more.
The main reason why the contribution of people working in sports and entertainment is no less than educators and medical professionals is because they provide us entertainment and inspiration. They are role models for society and people follow them and listen to them. Art and entertainment is as much a human need as food, clothing and shelter. These celebs also bring name and fame to our country. They spread our culture through their art. Therefore, their high earnings are very well deserved.
Secondly, these actors and sportsmen face a lot of competition and have to work really hard to be successful in their careers. Their schedules are really tight and their jobs are both mentally and physically demanding. They have to follow a strict diet and exercise regimen to stay in shape. Injuries in case of athletes and a series of unsuccessful movies or shows for actors can end their careers. Also for most celebrities and sportspersons the high earning phase is short lived, so the comparisons in pay are not justified.
Finally, these celebs completely sacrifice their personal life and freedom. They cannot enjoy the common things of life like the common man does. They are always followed by the paparazzi, and their children also always need security. Most of the things published about them in magazines are false or highly exaggerated and this causes a lot of controversies and disturbances in their personal lives. This is too much of a price to pay, and so the high salaries they receive are not unwarranted.
Summing up, people in the field of sports and entertainment, well deserve their high incomes. Their services to the society are as important as the services of doctors, teachers and nurses.
